Concrete Floor Designs

Protecting concrete surfaces will extend the life and appearance of them  Many people allow their surfaces to become worn or weathered before they restore them. Its sort of like waiting for your carpets to look dirty before cleaning them, carpet requires cleaning long before the soil begins to read. Concrete surfaces need maintenance in order to prevent them from becoming deteriorated.

There are many types of sealers on the market for the consumer but very few that are of the quality and density that are acceptable to us. We recommend either lacquer or acrylic lacquer type sealers for protecting concrete, the problem is  they are quite challenging to apply because they usually must be thinned and/or retarded with precision to be applied easily.  Two part epoxy type sealers provide good density and will set-up slower but most consumers still lack the practice to apply them properly.  Both require the proper  preparation in order to get good results.

Too many contractors neglect to stress the importance of maintaining concrete surfaces, they will guarantee their work against chipping and peeling but not the appearance, its almost like their afraid to bring up the subject. What happens is within a year the surface no longer has the wet-look shine and the clients is disappointed.  Ideally, surfaces should be cleaned and resealed once every few years minimum.

Another problem is how concrete surfaces are cleaned. High acid or harsh alkali cleaners can damage sealers, too high of pressure washing can weaken the surface, and ordinary rinsing off or washing with water high in mineral deposits can leave a dull layer of film.
